At the heart of the show is Ore Oduba as the eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, a role that requires just the right blend of charm, mischief, and warm-hearted sincerity. Oduba delivers in spades, bringing both boundless energy and touching vulnerability to the role. His performance of Hush-a-bye Mountain was particularly beautiful!
Joining him at the opening night was Adam Stafford as Grandpa Potts, who steals every scene he’s in with his endearing grumpiness and playful spirit. Meanwhile, Charlie Brooks is brilliantly terrifying as the Child Catcher, bringing a sinister edge to the role. She’s gleefully wicked and relishes every moment of being the villain.
But our favourite character of the night was most certainly Ellie Nunn who shines as Truly Scrumptious. She brings such a warmth and joy to the character and she had us all captivated with her beautiful singing voice in the iconic songs ‘Truly Scrumptious’ and ‘Doll on a Music Box’. She was just AMAZING!
Another duo who just totally bounced off each other where Boris (Callum Train) and Goran (Michael Joseph). Especially their performance of Act English showcased both their comedic talents. They had me in stitches (especially Goran with his facial expressions) with their impeccable timing, slapstick genius and perfectly exaggerated ‘Vulgarian’ accents with lots of random german words thrown in. Mini Mumbler who is bilingual in particular found it very funny when she recognised some words! Her face was just comedy gold!
And let’s talk about the CAR! The magic of Chitty is alive and well – the iconic flying vehicle is as spellbinding as ever. How does it do what it does? We won’t spoil it—but let’s just say the gasps of amazement and cheers from the audience said it all.
This production is packed with high-energy numbers that explode onto the stage, bringing classic songs like ‘Toot Sweets’ and ‘Me Ol’ Bamboo’ to life. The ensemble is fantastic, throwing themselves into the action with infectious enthusiasm, and the entire show is bursting with colour, movement, and sheer theatrical delight.
The Sherman Brothers’ classic songs remain as irresistible as ever, with Truly Scrumptious and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang still capable of raising the roof the whole audience was enchanted and was clapping along. And while the story is as playful as you remember, it’s also packed with heart—a tale of family, adventure, and the power of imagination that resonates just as much with today’s audiences as it did when the film first enchanted the world.
This production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a joyful celebration of everything that makes musical theatre magical. It’s fun, it’s full of heart, and it’s guaranteed to leave you floating out of the theatre on a cloud of nostalgia and delight.
