Monkey Music, (established in 1993) a leading pre-school franchise with a progressive curriculum, will be launching classes at venues including Bournemouth, Christchurch, Parkstone, Southbourne, Poole and Ringwood in September 2022. The local business is owned and run by award winning franchisee Katherine Watmough and will initially run age-specific music classes for children from 3 months up to 4 years old, expanding to additional locations and additional times from January 2023.
Katherine Watmough, a former first violinist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra, who owns the Bournemouth franchise will initially teach the classes herself as she did with her award-winning Monkey Music franchise in Hitchin & Baldock which currently engages four music teachers.

Monkey Music’s age specific, progressive curricula for children aged 3 months to 4 years use music, singing, dancing and playing instruments in a group to help support child development while simultaneously fostering musical skills. Our specially trained teachers have delivered approaching 3 million hours of classes since 1993 and nurture a relaxed, fun and safe environment so parents and children share precious time as they embark on their magical musical journey.
Rock ‘n’ Roll – The adventure starts with ‘Rock ‘n Roll’ classes for children from aged 3 months. Babies are very receptive to musical learning, able to remember musical sequences and detect changes in pitch, melody and rhythm. We build on those abilities while using bonding and sensory techniques to strengthen the relationship between baby and carer.
Heigh-Ho – From 12 months toddlers join ‘Heigh-Ho’ where Monkey Music tunes get parents and children dancing and catchy songs help with language development.
Jiggety-Jig – The musical journey continues for 2 & 3 year olds in ‘Jiggety-Jig’ as teachers help parents and toddlers explore rhythm and pitch. At this age children are excited to get to know one another and monkey’s playful songs and activities develop both social skills and imagination.
Ding-Dong – By age 3 or 4 our children have a foundation in rhythm, pitch, tempo and melody and in ‘Ding-Dong’ they learn to read music. The moment they make the connection between the music they hear and read is a huge milestone, similarly when they volunteer to sing solos and lead the Monkey Music band!
Monkey Music classes are also designed to engage, inspire and give confidence to parents and carers. We provide a relaxed, fun, safe and nurturing environment where parents and children can deepen their own bond while forming friendships with their peers.
