Before you visit think about what is important to you and your child/children. Do you want it to be within easy walking distance?
Make a note of what’s important to you and your family so you can refer back to it after you visit.
Here is a list of questions you could ask or things to consider when looking round to get you thinking:
How big is the school and how many students are there?
What is the intake for the year your child is going into?
Is the school part of an academy and if so what does that mean?
What is the range and depth of extra-curricular activities?
Do they have relationships with other schools?
What areas, departments & facilities really impress you?
What do the students that go there think?
What was the head teacher’s speech like?
Of course, don’t forget to ask your child what they thought about each school and what they liked and disliked too.
If you want to compare the performance of various schools in and around BCP, you can do so on the GOV.UK website here.
If your child is due to start Reception in September 2024 the national application deadline is 15. January 2024. You can apply online for a place in BCP here.
If you applied online, your application result will be available online from 10.00am on National Offer Day, Monday 16 April 2024.
Most children start infant or primary school in the September of the school year they turn five. You may request for them to start later, depending on your child’s date of birth.
BCP Council website has a Guide for Parents with lots of useful information.
